Hildebrand Ramsden seems to have led a very full life. I wonder when he found time to sleep.
I received an email today from the Honorary curator-archivist of the Quekett Microscopical Club. He found the following entry in the 1883 membership list: "Hildebrand Ramsden, M.A. Cant., F.L.S., F.R.M.S.,26, Upper Bedford Place,Russell Square, W.C. was elected to the Quekett Microscopical Club on 26th October 1866 and was Vice President."
The address is interesting. Every reference I have found online and also the book that I have gives the address as Forest Rise, Walthamstow. The book was published in 1854 and I assume that Hildebrand had it from new, so I am guessing that he kept the London address at the same time as his main residence in Walthamstow.
Possibly I can learn more from the Linnean and Royal Microscopical societies. A diverting activity if the Bank Holiday weekend weather lives up to traditional expectation!
