According to the 1870 census John E. Ramsley 23, sickly, is living with William Perry 54 and Anna 54 in Oakfield, Kent County, Michigan. It's odd that Anna is listed as a Perry since she and William didn't marry until 1872.
John appears in the 1890 veteran census of Kent County. He was suffering from rheumatism and kidney disease. It mentions he was drawing a pension, but I couldn't find him in the index of pensions. His pension, if you can find it, may have what you are looking for.
Anna and John may have appeared in the 1860 census of Philadelphia separately. He may have been living with a John Ranlsey and she with a Joseph Ransley. It's odd that the 1850 census has their ages so different from the other censuses. The 1850 census of Philadelphia includes a John Ransley 12 living in the Almshouse. It could be the same John listed twice.
