I'm looking for the maiden name of Frederika EBERHART, b. ABT 1816 in Prussia. Frederika's son, John Sebastian EBERHART was my great grandfather.
This is by no means proof that Fredericka was a RAPPE, but it's the first theory that half way works.
For now, I'm saying that she was a RAPPE and she had a daughter (not on any family charts) named Caroline who was a year older than John Sebastian.
1850 Census for Willistown, Chester co., PA Rappe, Sebastian 31 Germany (all) Rappe, Theresa 33 Eberhardt, Frederike 37 Eberhardt, Caroline 1
The Census does not list relationships until after 1880 so Frederike could be Theresa's sister, married or unmarried, with a 1 year old child (and one due in a month). This Census was taken on 19 AUG 1850 and I have John Sebastian's date of birth as 11 SEP 1850. I'm going to say that it's more likely that Frederike named her son for her brother than for her brother-in-law.
1860 Census for Sheffield, Warren co., PA Sabastian Rapp 41 Prussia (all) Rose Rapp 43 Caroline Everhart 11
I think Teresa and Rose are the same person. I haven't found John Sebastian and his mother in 1860.
1870 Census for Glade, Warren co., PA Rappe, Sabastian 51 Prussia (all) Pappe, Therrsia 53 Rappe, Simon 24
In 1870 Fredericka and John Sebastian are also in Glade, Warren Co., PA just a few doors away form Sebastian RAPPE.
1880 Census for Glade, Warren co., PA Sebastian Rappe 61 Germany Teresa Rappe 63
In 1880 Fredericka and John Sebastian are still in Glade, a few doors away form Sebastian RAPPE and next-door to Henry W. and Eveline GARDNER. (John Sebastian's daughter, Ora Dineta, married Daniel Avery GARDNER, Henry and Eveline's son.)
Interesting that in the 1880 Census the only Caroline, born in Prussia and the right age, is married to Stephen Mathis and has a daughter named Louisa. At one time, John E. GARDNER (Daniel Avery's brother) was married to a Lulu MATHIS. I'll put that down on the list of things to check out - way down on the list.
Sorry this is so long and complicated, but I'm hoping something sounds familiar to someone out there.
