Mariah Rarrick Houck and Joseph Houck are buried very close geographically to Andrew and Elizabeth Houck. Mariah and Joseph are buried in an old Houck Family Cemetery just off Keuka Hill Road near the Hamlet of Keuka, New York, which is on the old Bigelow tract. The stone says "Joseph Houck died May 5, 1828 Aged 43 years." Below that it gives Mariah's information: "Mariah Died April 12, 1864....(can't read the rest). Also in that plot is daughter Polly along with John Slivernail. There are also several other illegible stones. Interestingly, I have a record that John Silvernail's mother was a Charity Reerich. Both Mariah Rarrick Houck and her husband Joseph were born in Dutchess County. They had ten children. He died young, and left her alone with all those kids. The last record I have of her, other than her death date, is that she was incarcerated in the Yates County Home and listed as insane. Andrew and Elizabeth were also born in Dutchess County and are buried in the Wayne Village Baptist Church Cemetery in Wayne. Andrew's dates are 1785-1861 and Elizabeth lived 1784-1856. Andrew was part-owner, with another Houck Brother, of the original Houck Brothers Hotel in Wayne of which I have a picture. It no longer exists, as it burned in the early years of the past century. Other Houcks at the Wayne Village Baptist Cemetery include: Andrew J, Charles, Hilda Elizabeth, Mary Elizabeth, Octavius, and Polly. There are also several Houcks buried in the nearby McDowell Cemetery. All three of these cemeteries are within a mile or a mile and a half of each other. I am currently trying to obtain a copy of the early records of the Wayne Village Baptist Church. I was told about 25 years ago by a former pastor of that church that the records were burned in a fire. They were not. Hopefully I will have them, and a lot more information soon.
