I would like to know what other Raskins have been told about their family origins. My earliest known ancestor was Samuel Raskin, born about 1840, who was an engraver and lived in the Slutsk area, Minsk gobernia, Russia (now Belorussia).
I have noticed that other Raskins have a tradition of a Spanish origin, and there are others which seem to come from elsewhere.
I have been told that my family has Spanish roots (we were said to have left in 1492), but I do not know if it was our Raskin side or another ancestral family.
What does our name mean?
I recently had testing done at Family Tree DNA (www.familytreedna.com) and have started a Raskin surname project for others who are interested in learning about their Raskin genetic roots.
