I am writing a book on the larger Rayfield family and Andrew Rayfield is included and is my great great grandfather's older brother. Andrew Rayfield was born in SC, the second son of John and Elizabeth ______ Rafield. He married Sarah Horton, daugher of George and Rebecca Horton, of York Co., SC. There are estate records where the money of George Horton was divided and Andrew signed for his wife's share. Andrew's older brother, James T. Rayfield, was married to Lavinia Horton, sister of Sarah, but they divorced in Lincoln Co., NC in 1839 because of Lavinia's infidelity.
Andrew and Sarah had several children but Andrew was dead by 1850, maybe a little earlier. One son appears to have drowned in Broad River in 1846. Sons Rosebarry Lafayette and Andrew Marion Rayfield served in the Confederate Army. Many of the descendants of Andrew and Sarah ended up in Avery and Mitchell Counties, NC on the NC/TN line.
I have much more on them and will be glad to share more. My gggrandfather, Charles Rayfield moved to TN and named a son Andrew after his brother who died on a trek to Missouri in the 1870s. Please let me know what else you would like to know.
I have the Rayfields traced back to when Andrew's grandfather (and other family members) arrived in Charleston from Ireland in 1764.
