Sorry, Lorraine, but there is no connection on this side of the Atlantic with the Maryland Reasons.They stem from earlier immigrants (check out Hatton's works).My Reason family came to New York in 1836 from Whittlesey, Cambs. ENG.The name has been given in many works in several variations:Raison, Rosen, Reyson, Raisin, Rason, Rising, and Reason.Various authors on the subject of surnames have credited different origins of the name, but none seem to be very positive about any one of them.If you check out Bardsley's book on English surnames, you will probably get the best guesses as to origin, and appearance of the name in the earliest records.Good luck with your search.
