My cousin Mary VanVoorhis visited St. Wendel and Winterbach this past year. She met many Brills but no Recktenwalds.More of our relatives came from Marbingen, and also Trier. It is a huge family. We know of no relatives in Iowa. But it might be helpful to know that most of the Recktenwalds came to America at the time when Bismarck began his persecution of Catholics and Jews in the late 1860's and early 1870's. Some of the men served in the Franco-Prussian War. I have medals from my ancestors. The German community at Perkinsville was the center of immigration before others moved to Hornell. The Reckten walds in Hornell, Joseph and Charles, had huge families and the children are spread all over the United States. I hope this is some help. There are many Recktenwalds buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Perkinsville, N.Y. and at St. Ann's Cemetery in Hornell, N.Y.
