We have been trying to get anyone with the surname of Record ( males) to test and see if they are related to each other. My Unclehas been tested. It's only a saliva test taken from your mouth and sent in to the company who does the test. So far, we have been told that he is Atlantic Modal Haptloptypeand thattestssays it is very common for English and extremely common in Irish. We would like to quote from the President of the company. " Before we started testing DNA we confronted the idea of privacy very seriously. One of our partners is an M.D. and as a result has plenty of experience with privacy laws that deal with patient information. This is the primary way that insurance companies can 'tap' into your personal information.Since the Ins. Company is essentially picking up most of the tab when you fall sick, they have a right to know what you are doing. Tell the Doc that you smoke..and he puts it in your file..guess who can find out.God forbid a patient mentions unprotected sex! That's in the file too. While they cannot pull complete copies of what is in the file, they can ask specific questions and the answers Must be answered truthfully by the Dr.'s office staff. We contacted a professor of Law at Stanford who is an expert in the privacy law as it relates to DNA.His name is Hank Greely. Hank is the director of the ethical considerations board of Human Genome Diversity Project. We ran our ideas past him and he seemed quite comfortable with our idea of having a private company 'sell' the service, but have the actual lab work performed at a University that is under State of Federal Guidelines. In fact, the U of A doesn't perform any medical testing whatsoever, and you have become aware the Y chromosome doesn't code for anything more critical than the hardness of the enamel on the tooth. While DNA testing of any sort can lead to harm ( such as the discovery of a false paternity.. as we have seen many times) this is an 'opt in' program and doesn't force anyone to test against their will Furthermore by its very nature the study of Genealogy is a search for truth..and all of us know that false paternity has and does take place."
So far, we have had 3 Record males to test. Two of those matched( were from the same line) and 1 did not. I should think that this might be the perfect way to get past those "brick walls' that we have all hit at times. Contact me at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
