I think the only "proof" that the Nathaniel Redd who bought land in Frederick Co.VA, 1771 is our Nathaniel is the fact that his wife was named Barbara.Doesn't really prove it but the date is right after their marriage, which would make sense. Also, the name Nathaniel Redd is uncommon -- the only other Nathaniel I know of is the son of Andreas Roth, as you mentioned.I worried about that Nathaniel for a long time and tried to make the case that our Nathaniel was the son of Andreas Roth.It turns out that the birth of that Nathaniel just can't be 1749 and I am convinced they are two different people.
There are some interesting results from DNA testing, though.DNA tests of descendants of Andreas Roth and descendants of Nathaniel Redd(1749) gave a very close match.Proves that they are closely related in some way -- brothers, cousins, uncle or something. But, not father and son. This does really cause me to re-think some of my earlier visits to courthouses and wonder at what time did I begin to search for Roth/Roades as well as Redd.I need to go back and review it all.I do remember running down a Henry Roades in the Brother's Valley area ... a dead end.
Another clue I just found in my notes:In an e-mail back in 2004, Harry Zook said that Elizabeth Zook, another dau. of Peter Zook, married Dennis Schmidt 15 Nov 1771 at Manns, Bedford Co, PA(in the Brothers Valley area)A great clue as to where sisters Barbara and Deborah might have been married,(and the place where Peter Zook lived) but there may be a problem. The source is a pension record and the location was just barely legible.Harry said it was his "best guess".There is a town, "Manns Choice", in about the right place, near Bedford, PA.I tried to pursue it, but got no where.
