I have learned about the parents of the very early immigrant John REDMAN, Sr. who married Mary ALLEN-HARRIS. I have updated my REDMOND dna project to reflect this new info. This info with sources, has been placed on ancestry.com so that DNA members can add it to their family trees there. This info comes through the CREED last Wills ...
.1 Raphell CREED d=1633 England m=Agnes ??? ..2 Edward CREED=CARD n=11 Feb 1582 d=abt.1649 m=abt.1598 England,Gloucestershire to Elinor ??? ...3 Joan(e) CREED(E) bapt=27 Feb 1603 England,Gloucestershire m=Peter REDMAN res=1633 England,Gloucestershire,Compton-Greenfield ....4 Richard REDMAN n=UK,England,Gloucestershire d=abt.1639 Virginia (killed by Indians) ....4 John REDMAN, sr. n=UK,England,Gloucestershire d=1673 VA,Westmoreland-Co m=01 Oct 1655 VA,Westmoreland-Co to Mary ALLEN-HARRIS
When researching please be aware that some people have confused the grandfather Peter REDMAN born before 1600 res=England with his grandson Peter REDMAN n=abt.1656 VA,Westmoreland-Co d=abt. Feb 1685 VA,Westmoreland-Co (unmarried).
1st quote from the "Virginia Will Records" p423 ...
"June 24, 1685 (Peter?) REDMAN, dec'd., father of John REDMAN and former husband of Mrs. FRANKLYN (wife of Edward FRANKLYN) [p426]"
By placing a question mark by Peter's name, the author shows us that he is uncertain of the relationships. So here is the same information with my clarification added ...
1685/06/24 Peter REDMAN, deceased, son of John REDMAN, Sr. (the former husband of Mrs. FRANKLYN, now wife of Edward FRANKLYN).
1685/06/24 Peter REDMAN, deceased, son of John REDMAN, Sr. deceased & his wife Mary (who is now wife of Edward FRANKLYN)
source: 1675/06-1688/09 VA,Westmoreland-Co Order Book p426.
Note that the woman who married Edward FRANKLIN, Sr. d=Feb 1694, had about 6 children by him starting about 1675 & so obviously could not have been Joane CREED n=abt.1603. Also there are a number of legal suits in VA,Westmoreland court records by Mary's REDMAN sons against their FRANKLIN stepfather.
2ndquote from the "Virginia Will Records" p422 ...
"Feb 25, 16845 Solomon REDMAN & John REDMAN proved the nunc. Will of Peter REDMAN by the oaths of Morgan WILLIAMS & Catherine WILLIAMS & Robert HOARE & were granted 1 a. cum text annex (p385)"
Some people have interpreted the above quote to mean that Peter REDMAN of England was the father of Solomon & John. This is impossible since the John REDMAN, Sr. they are referring to (who married Mary ALLEN-HARRIS) died in 1673 (his Will written=02 Mar 16723 & proved=25 Jun 1673). Since John Sr. had been dead for 12 years, he could not have been the one granted administration of Peter REDMAN's estate in VA,Westmoreland-Co.
So here is the same information with my clarification added ...
16845/02/25 The brothers Solomon REDMAN & John REDMAN, Jr. proved the nuncupative (oral) Will of their eldest brother Peter REDMAN, by the oaths of Morgan WILLIAMS & Catherine WILLIAMS & Robert HOARE & were granted 1 a. cum text annex (estate administration). These 3 REDMAN brothers were sons of John REDMAN, Sr. & Mary ALLEN-HARRIS (she m2=FRANKLIN).
