It has been a long time since you and I were discussing the family of Johann Philipp Karcher or as you call him Karriker.
I have not re-read every post but I would like to hear more about your Karriker family. If you would be interested I will be happy to discuss all this and perhaps we can in some way learn more about the North Carolina Karriker or Carriker family. Years ago I attempted to find some of the Carriker family in Union and Mecklenburg Carrikers to share information on what they knew about their immigrant ancestors. I was then and still am interested. After moving to North Carolina from Philadelphia through York County, My ancestor Johann Peter Reeb became known in NC as Peter Rape. The reason is that in German the REEB name is pronouned in a way which sounds as Rape or Raap. The letter E in German as in most European countries takes the sound of our English A. The vowels are pronounced as they are in Latin languages. However in German there are a few other differences in the language such as the B and P are innerchangable. Sometimes B will be pronounced as P and sometimes not. It all depends on where in the word the letter is found.
There was a very large KARCHER family where the Reeb family lived in what was known in German as Grafschaft Saarwerden. The location was in what was in the same region as Alsace and Lorraine but Saarwerden was not part of either. France acquired Alsace in 1n 1648 and Lorraine in the 1760s, and then the old Saarwerden Countdom in 1793. Whether Johann Philipp Karcher was related to the large Karcher family who lived mainly in Wolfskirchen which was in sight of Pisdorf where my Reeb ancestors lived and the two villages for many years from the 1600s until this very time shared and continue to share the same Pastor. Philipp Karcher who married Margaretha Reeb was from Dillenburg located in one of the German states and after he came to the Saarwerden area he married Anna Margaretha Reeb. She was a older sister to my 6 greats grandfather Gustavus Reeb.
Since my cousins of the Rape family seems to have lived near one branch of the Carriker family in Union County and I personally also learned about the Karriker family in another County, I believe it was Cabarrus, I could not help but wonder if there was a relation. One of my Rape cousins told me about discussing this with some of the Carriker family but they did not think they were related to the Rapes. I still cannot help but believe it is possible the families may be related. Johann Peter Reeb lived in Salisbury in Rowan County for awhile then moved to Cabarrus County where he received a warrant for land. From there they moved into Mecklenburg, I believe that is the portion of Mecklenburg which became part of Union County. Then before he died he made arrangements to purchase land in South Carolina I believe in Lancaster County. But his descendants mostly resettled in Union County.
