Joe, As I noted, Moses Anderson's sister Rachel was surnamed Reese. (According to the Old Pendelton District Database - a project of the Old Pendelton District Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogica Society, she married Peter Reese, Jr. in abt. 1806) He was dead by 1830 and by 1840, when Rachel's father's will was probated in Pickens, SC, she was listed in the will only as Rachel Reese.
She would have been about 30 when John Reese was born ca. 1809 in SC, so I think that Peter and Rachel Reese are good bets.
The Burton Anderson that was living with John and Mary Reese in 1880 had no known children (and never married). He would have been a first cousin to Rachel Reese's children.
In 1830, Rachel Reese appears in the Pickens Co., SC census (page 319). She has a son in the household between 20 and 30 years old. This would be the right age to be John Reese. She is living near a 50 to 60 year old Levi Reese. He was a brother to Peter Reese, Jr. (same source as above).
