I am a descendant of Joseph Reffett who left Kentucky for Indiana, then to Illinois,Missouri, and back to Illinois again. Anyway, concerning Christopher Reffett/Reffitt I want to point out that Joseph who lived nearby Christopher named his first born Chritina. That proves nothing of course, but it lends credence to the idea that he is our guy. An allied family to my Reffett ancestors, and one which always travelled with the Reffett family has records in Maryland, S/E Pennsylvania, and I believe, Northern Virginia. I think it would be a good idea to focus research to the above mentioned areas. My theory is that our Reffetts entered Kentucky via The Ohio River instead of Through the Cumberland Gap. I may be mistaken but I believe that i had found Christopher Reffitt on a Virginia Tax List the year 1800 comes to mind. At any rate I cant seem to locate this in my records. Does anyone know of this? If so what county was he in? As for family origin I dont buy into the idea that we are French. I am no expert But Reffit/Riffitt/Reffett sounds more like a Germanic Derivative. Be that as it may, My mother who grew up in Central Illinois was told as a young girl that the Reffetts were from France. (This keeping in mind that our branch of the Reffetts left Kentucky approximately 175 years ago!) I have a few old photographs of my Reffett ancestors. I would like to exchange old photoswith anyone who would be so inclined to do so. Also I would like to hear from anyone with thoughts or leads about Christopher. I am stuck like everyone else, but I refuse to believe that there are no records in existence beyond what we have.
