Frederick C. "Fred" Reinhardt, 86, of Bridgeton died late Tuesday evening January 20, 2004 at S.J. Hospital- Bridgeton. He was admitted to the hospital earlier in the day and had been a resident of Rainbow Nursing Center in Pittsgrove since August.
The husband of Gladys (nee Brown) Reinhardt, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son of the late Frederick and Mary Pfeferle Reinhardt. He was a lifelong Bridgeton resident, having lived at his current address since 1963. Mr. Reinhardt was a 1935 graduate of Bridgeton High School.
Several years ago, he operated a delicatessen on Lawrence Street in Bridgeton for students when Bridgeton High School was located on Broad Street. A popular meeting place, he provided lunches to students between their classes.
He worked at one time for the E.I. DuPont Company and for many years as a salesman for Sutton Brothers in Bridgeton. He also worked for Leon Stotter Medical Supplies. His last place of employment was with the Cumberland County Court System as a Court Aid to Superior Court Judge William Forester. He retired in 1999.
Mr. Reinhardt enjoyed golf and was a former member of both the Cohanzick Golf Club and Centerton Golf Club. In his younger years he liked to go hunting and fishing.
He attended Central United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, James C. Reinhardt and his wife Diane of Buffalo Junction, Va., two step children, William L. Elbirn and his wife Charlene and Debra Chinnici and her husband Frank, all of Hopewell Township, two grandchildren, Shawn and Heather Reinhardt, four stepgrandchildren, Lindsey and Christopher Elbirn and Lauren and Jordan Chinnici and two great-grandchildren, Lee and Tyler Reinhardt. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred (nee Sockwell) Reinhardt in 1977 and a son, Dr. Lee W. Reinhardt in 1995.
Funeral services will be held Friday January 23 at 11 o'clock at the FREITAG FUNERAL HOME, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton
Pastor Kevin Davis of the Central United Methodist Church will officiate and the church's former pastor, Rev. Robert Steelman will share in the services.
The interment will be made at Overlook Cemetery in Bridgeton.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Friday morning one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Reinhardt's memory to Central United Methodist Church, 147 E. Commerce St., Bridgeton, N.J. 08302 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
