My name is Catherine Marie Renard Offner. My great grandfather was also August Renard from Guadeloupe, Fr. West Indies. My grandfather Albert and Eugene Renard were brothers so Catherine Kauffman is my second cousin. My father was Robert Renard, son of Albert and Melanie Pravaz. I was named after my father's aunt Catherine who was married to Joseph Renard. I heard "Mabonne", the family's black nanny, mentioned many times growing up. Her real name was Stina Mainbeuf (sp?) and she is burried in Calvary Cemetary in St Louis, MO next to Albert and Melanie. Mabonne was in her 50's when she came to St Louis in 1900 with Albert and Melanie and lived with the family until she passed away at the age of 94. She had been with the Renard family all her life in Guadaloupe. I was told she was told never to leave the family. Her mother worked for the Renards in Guadaloupe, who owned property and livestalk. My guess is that her mother or grandmother was a slave and she may possibly have been fathered by August's father. I am looking for information on August's father and how they came to Guadeloupe. Je cherche le pere d'Auguste Renard et pourquois est ce qu'il etait en Guadeloupe. I read recently that when the Acadians were kicked out of Nova Scotia in the 1750's, several of them went to the West Indies. Were they August's ancestors and if so, are there Renards still living in Nova Scotia? I am trying to determine if my ancestors were Cajun or Creole.
