My fellow REWIS rooters:
Some time back, I received an email from Phil Runkel, of Wisconsin, a GG Grandson of James Madison Rewis (1827-1906), of Tattnall Co, GA. He informed me that he had in his possession an original 1826 Tattnall Co, GA $1,000 bond given by John Rewis, related to the dissolution of his marriage with his wife Zilpha. He also had in his possession a handwritten piece of paper with a simple pedigree for John W. Rewis (1858-1946), son of James Madison Rewis. He has graciously given me permission to share these with this forum. He found these items in the personal effects of his grandmother Elizabeth Rewis, wife of Millard Rewis, who died in 1970.
Georgia, Tattnall County.
Know all men by these presents that I John Ruis, of the State of Georgia and County of Tattnall, do acknowledge myself held and firmly bound unto Zilpha Ruis, of the State and County afforsaid, in the just and full sum of $1,000, for the paymentof which I bind myself, my heirs & firmly by these presents sealed with my seal and dated this the 14 of November 1826.
The condition of this recognizance, is such that if the said John Ruis and Zilpha Ruis have concluded to quit living together as man and wife any longer and to live intirley
