Hello everyone!I can't believe it's been so long since I posted here, but I intend to do a better job of keeping an eye on this forum from now on.
I just got home from the annual Rich Family Association reunion this past weekend. The reunion was held at the Nonantum resort in Kennebunkport, Maine.About 50 RFA members and spouses attended -- from as far away as Kentucky and Michigan. The coast of Maine is a really great area!
Lots of genealogical information was exchanged and many acquaintences were renewed. The raffle generated a lot of money for the organization as did the art auction and a sale of dried fruits.
I had the distinct privilege of being elected president of the RFA for a 3 year term, succeeding Dr. Richard Rich who also posts here and who served as president for 9 years. Dick will serve as treasurer now, while Arthur Freeman Rich III of Maine will serve as Vice President. Karen Rich is serving as interim secretary, Betsey Patterson as genealogist and Barbara Baker as editor of "Kinfolk", the group's newsletter. (See www.richfamilyassociatiion.org for the complete list of board members and how you can join, plus some photos from the 2008 reunion.)
I first joined the RFA in 1993 and became a Life member shortly thereafter. The $15 annual dues ($20 first year) or $200 life membership is a tremendous deal for all the information you get, not to mention the college scholarships, friendships and fun.
Next year's reunion will be in September on or near Cape Cod, Massachusetts -- the ancestral home of my Rich line. Watch the RFA web Page for updates.
I'd like to encourage all of you to join the RFA and help us work together to build the organization and share even more information.I ahve to think that if we all pooled our information, we'd probably be able to solve all the mysteries and knock down all those brick walls!
