Thanks to a tip by fellow Richards researcher,Fay Kitchens,I was able to find the following in the Georgia State Archives in Atlanta:
*From D*A*R Records Vol.31 (1938),page 168:
"OUR GENEALOGY: A Centenary Offering
(by) Susan Bennett Webster (&) Benjamin F. Bennett (1884)".
George Richards, Sr. was the great-grandfather of the authors. They were children of Jane Davis Bennett, dau. of Martha Richards Davis, dau. of George,Sr.
George Richards, together with several brothers emmigrated from England and settled in Nansemond County,VA where he married Tabitha Hudson. He and his brothers moved to Granville Co.,NC prior to the Rev.War and settled about 5 mi.NE of Louisburg (which later became Bute, then Franklin County, NC).
George had several children, among them Stephen (who moved to Florida),James (who was killed in the Rev.War),Joshua (who was a Baptist Preacher and moved to Spartanburg,SC),George, Martha (called Patty, who married Micajah Davis), and Jane (called Jennie, who married John Hoge and moved to GA. Their children were Jeter and John, who returned to NC and married Nancy Williams. Their children were Erastus,Frances, and John Hoge).
Patty Richards married Micajah Davis in 1784,despite not having the approval of her father. George was a wealthy man and wanted a more affluent husband for Patty."
*As I stated, this is just a brief paraphrase. If you wish a full copy of the Richards portion of this paper, let me know and I'll send you a Gedcom, in which I've posted the full text under George Richards,Sr. 'More About'.
I'm now researching Nansemond County,VA records, trying to find the Richards brothers in the 1750's and the Hudson family that Tabitha came from. Nansemond records seem to be hard to come by, any help would be greatly appreciated! I've also looked at various ship-lists, but haven't found a George Richards in the right place at the right time yet, need some help there also.
