Hi Cindy, guess, I can help you a bit: We received from MaryAnn Abbott a document from a Düsseldorf lawyer concerning the bequest of Peter Richarz from Eller, Prussia. The document is from 1887 and handwritten in old German scripture, which makes it hard to read - also for Germans. Eller is nowadays an urban district of the German town of Düsseldorf, state Northrhine-Westfalia and in the neigborhood was (and is) the town of Hilden. This about the document and now the facts. Peter Wilhelm Richarz was civil leader of the village Eller and married with Christina (nee Helpertz). Christina died in 1875 and Peter in 1884. According the document, they had the following children or granschildren as successors: I: Children of Wilhelm Richarz II: Catherina Richarz III: Agnes, wife of the beer brewer and landlord Gerherd Wilhelm Kels from Düsseldorf IV. Heinrich Joseph Richarz, farmer at d’Hanis (TX) V. Children of Johann Richarz namely a. Joseph Adolf Hubert Richarz, landlord at Giddings (TX), b. Margarethe Hubertine, wife of the telegarphist Michael Dietsch at Austin (TX) c. Josephine Catherina, wife of the butcher Bernhard Schmidt at Austin (TX) VI. Anna Elisabeth, wife of the forest ranger Clemens August Budde at Mahlberg (Germany) VII. Wilhelmine Elisabeth, widoe of Johann Pieck, landlord at Eller; VIII. children of Margarethe wife of Johann Rimkus namely: a. Clara Rimkus at Düsseldorf b. Friedrich Rimkus, gardener at Uvalde (TX) c. Waldemar Rimkus farmer at Eller d. Carl Rimkus, marchant at Eller; e. Christine Rimkus at Eller f. Louise at d’Hanis
So I guess "your Joe" is the nephew of the Texas Ranger Heinrich Joseph Richarz and the cousin of his son Walter Richarz, who was also Texas Ranger and killed on duty by Comanches (link: http://www.odmp.org/officer/18681-private-walter-richarz)http://www.odmp.org/officer/18681-private-walter-richarz).
Greetings from rainy Wuppertal, Germany Jürgen Ricahrz
