The info I have was given to me by my uncle who has been researching our Holts family tree for some years, and knows far more than I can imagine asking for.So what I do know has been aquired by him and others, through the years from family tales and research, much of which is recorded from those who have past away. The story of Rhoda Ann Ricker and John Samuel Holts, is told by Wilda Holts McIntire. "John Samuel Holts married Rhoda Ann Ricker, who was born in 1841 near Woodstock, NB, Canada.Their early married life was in Bridgewater, ME.Their three oldest children were born there: Laura in 1866, George in 1871, and Howard in 1873.In the "History of Perham," written by Evelyn McIntire Flewelling, she states, quote " Between 1873 and 1876 the John Holts from Bridgewater, Maine, George Larby and Isaac Dickinson from Littleton, Maine, and James Conroy from Houlton, Maine--settled in the western part of the town of Perham. They were the first permanent settlers in this section." John and Rhoda moved to Perham in the dead of winter--January--with three small children. Laura, seven, George, two, and Howard, seven weeks. They traveled by horse and sled and had a cow hitched behind the sled." There is more to this story, if it sounds like you may know my ggg-grandparents, please post any new info as I am happy to share the rest of mine.
