NEW CASTLE - Essie R. Munro, 91, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Haven Health Center-Seacoast of Hampton.
She was born in New Castle on April 8, 1913, a daughter of the late Ben and Sadie (White) Ricker. She was raised in New Castle and was a Portsmouth resident for several years before returning to New Castle in 1958.
She had worked as a practical nurse at the Mark Wentworth Home in Portsmouth for several years.
She was Past Grand Secretary of the Pythian Sisters Grand Temple of New Hampshire as well as a member of Crystal Temple No. 36, Past Grand Noble of Fannie Gardiner Chapter No. 82 and Past President of the Past Chief’s Association. She was also a member of the Daughters of Pocahontas in South Berwick, Maine; Piscataqua Chapter No. 90 OES of Kittery, Maine; the John Hill Grange of Eliot, Maine; and the Fleet Reserve No. 7 of Portsmouth. She was a member of the New Castle Congregational Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Oscar C. Munro, who died in 1979, and by her five brothers and two sisters.
Family members include her three sons, Carl G. Munro of New Castle, Bert W. Munro of Salem and Benjamin R. Munro of Milton, Vt.; a daughter, Kay Dennis of Raleigh, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, she was the adopted grandmother of the first-grade class at Sacred Heart School in Hampton.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. If desired, donations may be made to the New Castle Congregational Church, Main Street, New Castle, NH 03854. Private burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, New Castle. Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton.
