You appear to know more about these Rickmans that I do. Let me try to answer some of your ( "questions" ).
( "Is your line from Chesterfield/Henrico?" ) I don't know for sure. I descend from Andrew Jackson Rickman born in TN. I find this Rickman, 28, and family in the 1850 census for Haywood Co. TN living near Jennetta Rickman, 69 (corrected), living w/Joshua, 22, and with Marcus Rickman, 41, and family in close proximity.
I have an 1804 TN marriage record for Jennetta Thrower and Joshua Rickman. I have land records for a Joshua Rickman in Giles County in 1820s. Census records show him with family in 1820 and 1830 in Giles Co. (Sex and ages match for the Haywood Rickmans; Marcus, A.J. and Joshua). I find them there (Giles) near Stovalls, Tatums, Stories, and others associated with Rickmans in Sumner and Trousdale COs TN.
I am told that the Halifax NC will of Boyce Tatum Rickman (widow of Robert) lists their children as Mark, Nathan, Joshua and Ann. I do not have this record. The Trousdale(TN)County History Book has been cited as containing a reference by a Joe Rickman to Joshua being a son of Robert and Boyce Rickman. I do not have and have not seen this book.
If all this proves out, then I am descended from Thomas (1713-1761) and unknown wife through Robert and Boyce Rickman. Beyond that, there is nothing I am sure of.
(You said: "I know that Robert and Thomas sold their properties around 1750-51. What is the relationship between Robert and Thomas?" ) With the baptismal record, mentioned in one of my previous postings here, it appears Thomas was the son of a Robert Rickman and supports the 1713 DOB. The naming patterns also support this. If a Robert Rickman was selling land in 1750-51, it most likely would not have been Thomas' son Robert. I would strongly think that it was Thomas' father Robert; however, I've seen hardly anything on him. I would love to have the opportunity to research live in the counties of record.
(You said: "It is my understanding, from my Hudson connection, that it took nearly 40 years to settle the family estate because of some shady Rickman dealings. There are some lawsuits where the Hudsons tried to get the estate settled but it was a lost cause for a long time! The Records are in Halifax Co.") Doesn't the will give live estate to son Robert's widow? When did Boyce Tatum Rickman die? Was it in the early 19th century? Would this have prolonged settlement? Have you accessed these records? I would love to have copies of them. Do you think they would reflect anything on Thomas' will?
(You said: "I don't know what to think about Thomas' will and the Kirksey children. I have never been able to understand why their last name was not written as was the Rickman children and grandchildren. I'm not sure about Rebecca either.") Agreed on all points. Until anyone EVER tries to link their Rickman connection through any of the children or Rebecca, my inclination is to not worry about who they are.
I have very little to share but all is yours. Please, if you would, enlighten me. Tell me who I am, if you know.
