I am new to researching this famliy in MO.I am getting more detailed information now, about these ancestors. The patrarch of the familywas Anton[e] Rieger born Baden Germany ca 1829.He married Mary Susan Little ca 1825 in 1857.It appears Mary had been married as many as 4 times prior. There were children from these marriages.
They resided in IL until about 1860.
They lived in Indiana Twp, Marion Co Iowa from 1860 to 1869.Their first born were twins; Anton Jr and Sophia born 1858 in IL.Children, Olive ca 1861; Charles ca 1863 and George ca 1865 were all born in Iowa.
From 1870 through at least 1875, the family resided in Milan, MO.
Anton Sr was a potter, making churns, milk jars, crockery and earthware. The local newspapers ran an advertisement of his products through these years. Apparently he had quite an operation going there, as he employed 23 individuals. While in MO his step-son followed his trade.
I do not know what happened to this family from 1875 to 1894 when they appered in Victor CO.Father, Mother and 3 sons, Charles, [my ancestor] George and Anton Jr, with their families arrived in the gold rush of Cripple Creek/Pikes Peak era. They remained there until sons Charles and George left for better climes in 1904.At this time miners were having an Union War. There was much serious unrest.People were being murdered, so the two families left in the dark of night.Anton Jr. and Sr. remained in Victor.I do not know if both continued in the mining industry, or not.It is doubtful Sr Anton would have been of an age to persue the mining.I do know he was employed by the school system as a janitor at the time of his death in 1907.
If you think this will all fit into your family, I will gladly share my information. If you have any corrections or additinons, please do so!
