I have a book written by Robert L. Brock - "47 Pioneer Families of Rockingham County, Virginia, which has a little information on this family: "The Rife (Riffe) family lived both in the Edom area of Linville Creek Twp., and in the Plains Twp near Broadway and along Cedar run and Linville Creek. The Rifes were associated with the families of Bowman, Ritchie, Mason, Arehart, Hawkins, miller, and others........"The 1860 Henry Co., Inidana census, Jefferson Twp, lists Joseph Rife 47, Sarah 38, both VA"with children."The two daughters moved to Ray County (MO) with their spouses."There is additional information here.I believe I purchased this book at the HRHS (Harrisonburg Rockingham Historical Society) Library in Dayton, Virginia.
The book "Pioneers of old Frederick Co., Virginia" by Cecil O'Dell also has a paragraph about the Rifes."Jacob Rife (assignee of Mathias Gabbert) received a Fairfax grant for 300 acres where he lived on Toms Brook on 11 Sept 1766....Jacob and his wife Catherine sold the 300 acres to Wolrick Feller for 192 pounds on 19 August 1768."There is further information on where the land was located, but nothing further on Jacob and Catherine. This book is available from the author at 464 Morse, Liberty, MO64068, and costs approximatley $50.
I am not a member of the family and have no other information on them.
