Hi Philip - My name is Brian Walsh. My mother was Kathryn Rigney, her family was from Chicago, Illinois. My mother's Rigney family immigrated from Bagenalstown, County Carlow. I have done much work on the Bagenalstown Catholic parish baptismal registers (ie. Dunleckney Parish Registers), and that transcription work is available on-line for free at the County Carlow Rootsweb site administered by Mr. Michael Brenan. Anyway, when I was young my parents had "Four Years in Red Hell" about Father Harold Rigney in our family bookcase. I am not sure if it was there because we were related, or because we were Catholic, or because the surname was the same, all three plausible reasons for the book being in our home. I think I asked my mother why when I was young, but I forget her response. Now most of my Rigney aunts and uncles are dead, the ones that are alive have Alzheimers (a genetic thing)and would not know. But I thought I would share that information. I tried once to follow Harold Rigney's genealogy but I couldn't get very far on it, perhaps you know more.
