Thanks for the dates for Thomas Lewis. Maybe that really is an "L" on the census instead of a "D". The writing can be a challenge sometimes. Thanks for the wedding date and Elizabeth's last name, too. I'll add that to my notes. Thanks also for the specifics on Harriet Simms. Donna will be glad to see that.
>I show Nancy as b. 1868 and George b. 1871,
On the 1860 census Thomas has a son George E age 5. George is not with him in 1870, though. Perhaps he died young. Thomas doesn't have a son George in 1880 either.
I'm unsure about his daughter Nancy. On the 1870 census there are two Nancys listed with Thomas:
1870 census Wayne Co WV p98/9: Thomas Rigsby 52 NC Mary J 25 VA Nancy A 3 WV Archibald 24 VA John 21 VA Thomas 18 VA Albert 13 VA Nancy J 8 VA
I had wondered why Thomas' wife's age was wrong. Now that I know he married again, it makes more sense. She was quite a bit younger than him, huh? I imagine the older children found that strange. What still doesn't add up is the two Nancys. Nancy J looks like she fits in with Thomas' children from his first wife. Could it be that Mary Jane Spence was married earlier, and Nancy A is her daughter?
