So is there anything you can tell me about this branch of the family?I know the evidence is pointing towards Thomas, Ephraim, etc. being RIGBYs, but my friend's family is solidly southern- not a drop of Yankee blood anywhere so far on either side.It would be pretty unusual to find that this branch of the family goes back to New England with the rest of the RIGBYs.
Do you know anything about the descendants of this Charles RIGBY/RIGSBY from SC?All of my friend's families go back to either SC or VA and that seems like a logical place to look for the roots to this line as well, especially since the name seems to vary like Charles' does.
My Alabama settlement patterns are not really up to snuff, but I know that most of the families who settled there came from Tennessee, Georgia or the Carolinas. As you said, the RIGBY and RIGSBY families tended to stick to their own parts of the country.I find this to be the case with many families in general, at least before the 20th century.Without a very good reason, most families remain in the north or in the south and not many move from one to the other.
Were there other RIG(S)BY families who moved into the Dallas/Wilcox Co. area of Alabama that you have traced back?Perhaps there were brothers or cousins that can be found?
