RE: "(no relation) [R84.8] Jim Rigsby 14 LA/US/MS"
This is my grandfather. James Henry Rigsby born Sept 1890 (according to some records in 1891). He died in 1992 in Richland Parish. He is buried in McKnight Cemetery (Holly Ridge, La) along with my Dad and several other Rigsby's. He was living with Earl Stokes at this time and would soon marry his first wife Lillie Stokes Heath. They had several children. She died in 1928 giving birth to Alice Marie Rigsby. Grandpa then married my grandmother, Emma Elizabeth Buckalew (previously a Tickell), and had several more kids including my father, Huey Carl Rigsby on Sept 8 1938. My father died in Richland parish in 2003.
I have very large family tree starting with my grandfather, but I don't know much about his parents and on back. I saw another post where you had him possibly descending as grandson of R05.3.5.2 John. I am told he believed his mother to Sally Fergusson.
He told a story of his father dying when he was young. I suspect prior to 1910. His mother remarried to an abusive man so my grandfather hopped a train from somewhere to live with the stokes.
The names of relatives they called aunts were Lula, Maggie, and Fannie. I found a Lula Rigsby marrying a Ben Gray. There is a marriage certificate I found for a Fannie Rigsby to Charles Grice in Delhi, La. (I noticed here that a man named Joseph Hooper paid her dowery and signed her over, which is curious.) I hear a Mattie married a man named James E J Smith from Mer Rouge, La.
My problem here is that I don't know the real relations between these ladies and my grandpa. I can't seem to make sense of the Sally Fergusson mother name; it could have been her maiden or married name of the second husband.
