I'd just like to let everyone know that I have just started a website for John Riley, Sr., the Revolutionary War soldier born in Amherst County, VA in 1756, who died at Blue Mountain, MS, Tippah County, in 1852.
John Sr. settled in Tippah Co, MS in 1840 and the family has been here since that time.I am his great, great, great, great granddaughter.
One other thing:I am a writer and the name Shannon Riley is a combination of family names I use as a pen name.Riley is my mother's maiden name and Shannon is my paternal grandmother's maiden name.My legal name is Mary Joan Turner.(However, I'm all RILEY, and proud of my heritage!. ))
I started the site because I found so much wrong information on the Internet about our family and John Sr. in particular that I wanted to present some factually researched and documented information. (One site, which I will not name, is offering downloads on John Sr. filled with mistakes and selling so-called factual books.) My site is free and lineage charts (to be posted) are backed up by census records, birth, death and marriage records, wills, John Sr's military records (yes, I have copies!) and numerous other sources. Also, he is buried here and his grave is marked by the DAR.
