1923 - John Emil Engbarth - 2004
John Emil Engbarth was born on November 18, 1923, to Alfred and Constance (Ringer) Engbarth on a farm by Adrian, Minnesota where he was raised and attended St. Adrian's Catholic School. When he was 14 years old, he moved with his parents to a farm by Woodstock, Minnesota where he worked on his parents' farm. On September 7, 1943, John was united in marriage to Georgianna Nece at St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed near Woodstock. In 1951, they moved to a farm by Ward, South Dakota. Four years later, they moved back to the original Engbarth farm near Woodstock where they lived and farmed until their retirement in 1996. At that time, they moved to Lake Wilson, Minnesota. In July, 1999, John became a resident of the Good Samaritan Communities in Pipestone where he remained until his death on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 at the age of 80. John was baptized and confirmed at St. Adrian's Catholic Church in Adrian, Minnesota. He was currently a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock where he was active in the Knights of Columbus. He served on the school board, and he served on the township board. He was a member of the Lake Benton Saddle Club and the Lake Wilson Saddle Club. He loved to ride horseback, and he raised quarter horses. He won many prizes for showing his quarter horses. The prize money paid for many groceries. He enjoyed bowling in a league in Pipestone. He also enjoyed dancing, deer hunting and bear hunting.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Georgianna Engbarth, Pipestone, MN; nine children: Sharon Nelson and her husband Arden, Balaton, MN; Constance "Connie" Nelson, Spring, Texas; Marlis Tiedeman and her husband Vernie, Kinney, MN; John "Jack" Engbarth and his wife Peggy, Lincolnton, NC; William "Bill" Engbarth and his wife Carolyn, Riverside, CA; Patrick "Pat" Engbarth and his wife Cindy, Ruthton, MN; Mary DeKam, Harrogate, TN; Mark Engbarth and his wife Lynette, Lake Wilson, MN and Elfred "Butch" Engbarth and his wife Karen, Magnolia, TX; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; his stepmother Vi Engbarth Manion, Pipestone, MN and five sisters: Irene Ragen and her husband Dan, Philadelphia, PA; Florence Fleming and her husband Mike, Alpine, TX; Rose Nelson and her husband Don, St. Cloud, MN; Mildred Fangmeier and her husband Bob, Pipestone, MN and Darlene Engbarth, Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his son Michael; two grandsons: Billy and Chad; his parents; and his daughter-in-law Vicki Engbarth.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church in Woodstock with burial in the church cemetery. (Source:MurrayCountyNews11/04)
