Frederick Ripperdan was born in Palatinate, Germany ca 1740/49 and immigrated to America as a child.His wife Sarah Chitick [some sources give her surname as Banta] was born in Palatinate, Germany ca 1746 and they probably married in PA.They lived in York Co., PA in 1780 and their three oldest children were born there according to Bible records.They went to VA and then came to KY early in 1780 with The Dutch Group by way of the Wilderness Trail, were caught in the mountains where they wintered, and arrived at Boonesboro Ft in March of 1780 at the end of what early Kentuckians called "the hard winter".During the trip and their first few years in KY, many friends and family members were killed by Indians; Fred was described in early historical accounts as being a scout for the fort and there are several descriptive accounts of his fights.They eventually settled near Danville; Fred died April 26, 1829 and Sarah died October 10, 1838.Their children: 1) CATHERINE (CATY) RIPPERDAN - Born May 18, 1774 & died 1852; married Thomas Shaw. 2) MARTHA (PATSY) RIPPERDAN - Born October 10, 1775; died May 8, 1859 in Boyle Co.; married John Braxdale on October 25, 1798.Line of GPThacker@aol.com. 3) ESTHER ELEANOR RIPPERDAN - Born Dec 25, 1776; died in Boyle Co. in 1885; married Elias Wingate. 4) JOHN RIPPERDAN - Born October 11, 1779, probably on the Wilderness Trail; married Mary Shepherd & settled in Ripperdan Valley, IN; died in Harrison Co., IN. 5) SARAH H. RIPPERDAN - Born October 19, 1781 & reported to be the first white child born at Ft. Boonesboro; died 1863 in Danville, KY; married James M. Fields. 6) ABRAHAM KELLER RIPPERDAN - Born March 17, 1784 at Ft.Harrodsburg; died 1827 near Harrodsburg; married Nancy Pritchett. 7) MARY (NANCY) RIPPERDAN - Born July 1, 1786 in Mercer Co., KY; married Joseph Wigham, died 1834. 8) SUSAN ANN L. RIPPERDAN - Born November 1, 1788; married Henry Fields; died 1863 near Danville. 9) FREDERICK R. RIPPERDAN - Born June 7, 1791 in Mercer Co.; died of cholera in 1849; unmarried.
