We can not specificially identify Matthew, so he may be a son-in-law.
Thomas Reed, one of the two sons that inherited the plantation, sold his half in 1784, and on the sale bill, had "Thomas Reed, Farmer, of Berkeley County, Virginia and his wife, Elizabeth (unknown).
Thomas applied for a land patent in Georges Township, Fayette County, PA in 1885.
There was a daughter of a Matthew Rippey, who married a John Reed in Berkeley County, VA (WV) in 1789, but we can't tie this John Reed into Thomas Reed's children, although Thomas did have a son named John in his will, having left him 10 pounds in about 1794..
Most of Thomas and Elizabeth (unknown) Reed's children went to Union County about 1800, except William Reed whom married Sarah Coombs and migrated with his wife's siblings into Kentucky and then Clark County, Indiana about 1800.
Any help and/or ideas in identifying this Matthew Rippey and tying him into the Reed family would be very much appreciated.
