Daniel SCHELL, a medical doctor, went from Pennsylvania to Ohio and published an herbal in 1856 in German, of which we have a copy. Daniel is not my direct ancestor, but the brother of my great-great grandfather. Both were sons of Jacob SCHELL of Pennsylvania, and as we suppose, also great-grandsons of Michael Sr. of Allentown/New Goshenhoppen, PA, Montgomery Co. (see abbreviated linage below).
A cross-post from the SCHELL forum. See below for RISHEL.
If anybody is descended from Daniel SCHELL, my uncle and I would love to hear from you. He has a copy of the medical book, published in German, and I hope to convince him to let me scan and publish it. It is not very big.
Our earliest *known* SCHELL is Jacob II, the son of Jacob I (we hope!) and grandson of Michael Sr. This Jacob was b/ 1756 near Allentown, PA, Montgomery Co.and died 26 Aug 1833 (yep, his birthday). Confirmed at Great Swamp Church, Berks Co. near Spinnerstown 14 Apr 1775. He married Anna Maria Wohnsittler, and they had 5 children: Daniel, John, Jacob ("Jake"), Anna Maria ("Polly"), & Peter. Interestingly his wife is buried at New Goshenhoppen (1820) and he is buried at Great Swamp Church (1833).
I am also interested in a re-published MD book by one Jonas RISHEL- because one of our SCHELLS married a RISHEL woman! This is called "The Indian Physician" and is herbal of sorts. Pub. 1828 in New Berlin, PA. RISHEL, like Daniel SCHELL, emigrated to Ohio. I am wondering if his work influenced Daniel SCHELL's work, and if, in fact, the two families are interconnected, given the coincidences of family names, subject matter, and locations.
