Hi,
I'm wondering if your gr-gr-gr-grand Peter Risser might be related to my husband's gr-grandfather George Peter Risser.Perhaps they may be brothers or cousins?George was also born about 1844 in Bavaria. We only know that George was one of seven brothers. The brothers had each served a couple of hitches in the Prussian army and not wanting a third, immigrated to the states instead of fighting in the Franco-Prussian War.We know that George Peter was in Colorado as my husband's grandfather, Martin Charles Risser, was born in Pueblo, Colorado about 1879.Father and son later settled in the Seattle/Puget Sound area of Washington.
We met another Risser here in Oregon, Dr. Daniel Risser from Iowa who has since passed away, who also knew of the family connection to living in Alsace-Lorraine (northeastern corner of France -- it has gone back and forth between France and Germany rule) and was proabably descended from one of the 7 brothers.Another notable name here is the current president of Oregon State University, Paul Risser, who is from Ohio.So we figure there might be links scattered across several states.
The name Risser stands for 'gatherer of rushes.'
