Please help determine the lineage of Joseph Revard (Rivard). Joseph was married to Catherine an Osage woman. One source I have found (Red Oak Family Tree http://www.redrival.com/redoaktree/index.htmhttp://www.redrival.com/redoaktree/index.htm )indicates Joseph's parents were Pierre Revard (Rivard) and Marie Demaret, but there is no additional information on this that I have found other than at http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Delta/3843/stluismilitia.htmhttp://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Delta/3843/stluismilitia.htm which refers to a Joseph Ribet; 36; Canada; Habitant LH Note: Joseph Rivet claimed land extending from the river St. Ferdinand to the Missouri. He was a son of Pierre Rivet and Marie Demaret, and died in St. Louis in 1789.] LH Notes". These were taken from Louis Houck's 1909 book, "The Spanish Regime in Missouri". The name spelling is a Spanish translation.
Another source (Ms. Angela C. Robinson) believes Joseph's lineage is (5)Nicolas Rivard and Antoinette Dubord; (4)Claude dit Loranger Rivard and Catherine Roy; (3)Robert dit Loranger Rivard and Madeline Guillet; (2)Pierre Rivard and Jeanne Mullard and (1)Thomas Rivard and Jeanne Chevreau.
This source has Joseph's birthday as Oct 3, 1735 and has a reference to baptism on October 3, 1736 in Champlain (i). The January 24, 1735 census shows Nicolas and Antoinette living in Champlain. There is a reference to an engagement to Illinois of a Joseph Rivard on May 28, 1753 (ii) and a testimoney by a Joseph Rivar before a tribunal investigating Benito Vasquez in June 1787 where he gave his age as 52 and said he had been in Osage country for 34 years. i) Dictionnaire genealogique des familles du Quebec page 580 ii) ibid page 261
