TURNER, JOHN
convicted of "Mule Stealing" at the Circuit Court of Hardeman County and Sentenced to three years Confinement in the Jail and Penitentiary House of the State of Tennessee.
Was received into the Penitentiary the 10th day of December Eighteen hundred and thirty five (1835). He was born in Pendleton District, SC and raised to farming in Roane Co. TN on Tennessee River. He married NANCY, daughter of MATTHEW HICKS in Hardin Co. TN. His wife and two male children are now residing with his Father in law.
His mother, four brothers (two married) and four sisters (both married one to NATHAN MORRIS and MOSES OVERTON) reside in Rhea County, TN near Fal? Miles Vernon's. He has two sisters living in Morgan Co. AL. Married each to SOLOMON and WILLIAM GAY.
He has several Uncles (TURNERS) and cousins living in Pendleton District, SC.
He is twency six years of age, five feet ten inches in height, and weighs one hundred and (blank) pounds. Dark hair, eyes and complexion. Full red face and inclined to bullness. Stout built and robust man. He has a black mark of nature of the middle finger left hand on the side next his forefinger. Also a mulberry natural mark on his tongue. A scar on the end and one near his hand in the forefinger of the right hand and a huge scar on the instep of the left foot.
He reads and writes a little.
Jno. Turner discharged on the 24th Day of Decr 1838.
