Robert and Lucinda (Roane) Lumpkin had a son who was named John Roane Lumpkin, and he married Catherine Wyatt "Kitty" Garrett (born 1799; she was a daughter of William Garrett (born 1774) and Matilda/Tillishee Wyatt).Per your post, I see that this Lucinda/Lucy Roane was a daughter of Charles Roane of King and Queen Co., VA, correct?
I would suspect that this Charles Roane somehow "traces back" to the same overall Roane family as the William Roane who married Sarah Upshaw and who had children named Thomas (born 1732; married Mary Ann Hipkins), William (married Judith Ball), John (Susannah Jones), Mary (married Archibald Ritchie), Sarah (married John Brockenbrough) and Lucy (married first Richard Barnes and second Moore Fauntleroy Brockenbrough, Senior)....see more below on this Brockenbrough family.I have not studied the Roane family all that much, but I see from another post that the above "first/older" William Roane had BROTHERS who were named Robert, Charles, and Alexander (who had also married a woman named Mary Hipkins back in 1736).So, there seems to have been several "branches" of this overall Roane family from which "your" Charles Roane might have descended.
Note: There was also another William Roane who married Sarah Daniel/Daniels in 1754.My maternal Smith family also married into that same overall Daniel/Daniels family in Middlesex Co., VA in the 1700s.
My maternal gg-grandparents were Smith W. "Brown" (born about 1817) and his wife Susan Hill Garrett (they married in Middlesex Co., VA in 1841).Susan Hill Garrett was a daughter of Richard Garrett and Nancy Taff (they married in Middlesex Co., VA in 1812).Richard and Nancy (Taff) Garrett also had a son who was named LUMPKIN Garrett, and as such, I SUSPECT that the above-referenced Mrs. Catherine Wyatt "Kitty" (Garrett) Lumpkin was a SISTER of "my" Richard Garrett.I also SUSPECT that Richard Garrett was the Richard G. Garrett who appeared on the 1810 King and Queen Co., VA census (per a couple of clues). What is your "exact connection" to Robert and Lucinda/Lucy (Roane) Lumpkin?
The above Lumpkin Garrett married Frances Brown (born 1820s) in Middlesex Co., VA in 1848 or so, and she was the apparent younger step-sister of Smith W. Brown. After Frances Brown died, Lumpkin Garrett married second to a Miss Wyatt (so there is that surname again), and they lived in Gloucester Co., VA....as did my maternal gg-grandparents, Smith W. and Susan Hill (Garrett) "Brown."
The above Smith W. "Brown" was actually a "blood Smith" versus a "blood Brown," per DNA testing on one of his living male "Brown" descendants (my cousin). It strongly appears that Smith W. "Brown" was a "biological son" of John Smith and Sarah Waller, and that sometime after Mrs. Sarah (Waller) Smith died (maybe as a result of having this child in 1817), John Smith gave the son to John and Mary (Bennett) Brown to rear (and John Smith was ALSO dead by at least 1822, so he MAY have been in ill health when he gave his youngest son to this Brown family).
Note: John Brown's wife, Mrs. Mary (Bennett) Brown, was ALSO a descendant of the above Smith family, hence, she was a "viable candidate" to have become the guardian of an infant/toddler from that Smith family.
This Smith family "traces back" to the Alexander Smith who was in Lancaster/Middlesex Co., VA by at least the 1650s, and who died in Middlesex Co., VA in 1696.The DNA of two male Smith DNA donors from that Alexander Smith family is a "match" to the DNA of my "male Brown cousin."
John and Sarah (Waller) Smith had a daughter who was named Miss Sarah Waller Smith. This daughter married Moore Fauntleroy Brockenbrough, Junior in Essex Co., VA in 1823, and as shown above, his Brockenbrough family had married into the Roane family on at least two earlier occasions....including his own father, Moore Fauntleroy Brockenbrough, Senior.
There was also a man named Bennett Browne in Essex Co.,VA (died in the late-1780s in Essex), and his Browne family was apparently not related to "my" John Brown who married "my" Mary Bennett (again, the adoptive parents of "my" Smith W. "Brown").One of the members of this unrelated Browne family also married into the Roane family. This Browne family and "my" Brown/Bennett/Smith family became "closely associated" with one another at some point, but I don't know if that was because of the stated "Roane connection" versus a "Bennett connection," versus some other "connection."
By the way, I see from some of your other posts that you are also interested in the Childers family. My paternal ggggg-grandparents were Hezekiah Davidson and Tabitha Childers of Cumberland Co., VA, and that Tabitha Childers was a daughter of Abraham Childers "III" and Elizabeth Cannon (whose parents were William Cannon and Judith Woodson). Are you also a Childers descendant?
Comments/questions on any of the above? Thanks.
