Donna, I tried posting this to the email address in your message, but the email didn't go thru for some reason, so I'm back on the forum. This certainly seems like our two Great Grandfathers were brothers. Valentine is a name given one of my Grandmother's cousins, too. Our records are mainly from Colorado. We have no information on Valentine or his parents. We had not known that he was possibly from Halifax, nor anything about his siblings. Nor have we any idea about where or when he was born, or where or when he may have died. What you have added is all news to us, and we really thank you. It seems to fit well with what we have. All of our information til now has been from public or published records that my wife and I have tracked down through library, newspaper, and court house research.
The only two children of Valentine that we know of are my GGrandpa James and his brother John Frederick. Marriage record report from Denver, CO lists John F. Robar marriage to Sadie A. Taylor 9-24-1894. 1900 Census for Cripple Creek, Teller County, CO lists John F. Robar, b. 1853; wife Sadie A, b. 1871; dau Allice[sic] C., b. 1897. See post by Sarah Crosby Taylor who seems to have much more information on this line. The name John Frederick certainly seems to be a family name, doesn't it? I can furnish details for my family, the descendants of James. Do you have access to records at Halifax?
The tangled thread leads who knows where? All the best, Roy
