James Rob of Kilsyth
James Rob (1688-1753), the minister of Kilsyth was the son of Michael Rob, the minister of Cumbernauld, and his wife Isobella Dundass.
Although he is recorded as Robe in the DNB entry - this is a later gentrification. The surname Rob was the common use in Scotland until around 1770-1800 when Robb or sometimes Robe was taken, although Robe was occasionally found before this, and the spelling is interchangable.
James Rob was involved with the Jacobite Cause and joined the army of Charles Edward Stuart in 1745.It was extemely rare for a Presbyterian Minister to become involved with the Jacobite's.
