TN > Union AR 1840s
There are a number of Robersons who came to Union County AR in the 1840s from TN. Various researchers have come to believe they may be connected, but it is not yet proven.
As a direct male descendant of Henry Roberson, I have decided to participate in the Robinson (and all variations) Surname Y-DNA project (kit # N16476).

It is hoped that if other Roberson name descendants from TN or Union AR also participate we will be able to determine possible kinship fairly quickly. If the DNA shows a match, we can combine clues from traditional research and possibly extend the line through additional documentation.
There is a small "cluster" of individuals with similar marker values in the project already, but no exact matches. We are in the process of obtaining additional samples from known Henry Roberson male descendants to establish a clear "baseline" for our family and analysis of kinship with others.
Henry Roberson came to Union County by or before 1847 when he married. We know from his widow's military pension records that he was born in 1818 in Giles TN, served briefly in 1838 as a TN volunteer, enlisting from and returning to Dover in Stewart County TN. He had several parcels of land in Union County and appears on many kinds of official records, but not in Fed Census records. The name appears with various spellings including Robertson (family Bible) and Robinson (court filings). The first census we find any of this Roberson family listed in is 1880.
James Roberson, veteran of the War of 1812, lives nearby with children who were born in TN. Family names are similar to those in Henry's family.
George W Roberson is said to have travelled with William to Union County. Henry was known by later generations as "William" Henry, though only shows in records found so far as Henry. As with James, similar names appear among descendants. This could be simply coincidence or it could mean something more.
There is also a possible connection to Sharp & Blount Roberson of TN, sons of William Robertson. Also not yet proven by documentation, but hinted at in a will.
If DNA matches are found and discoveries are made, information will be posted.
