My particular branch of the Robley clan stems back to a farm in Cumbria UK called Scarrowmanick. In the late 19th century when a farmer died the farm passed to the eldest son and the rest of the family had to find their own way in the world. My Granda's father was one of these younger brothers. All my fathers generation are farmers to this day, my Dad now farming on Vancouver Island Canada (and now the only one left with sheep since the foot and mouth crisis in Britain!). I know of another branch of the family descending from Scarrowmanwick, living in Consett Co. Durham. They moved for work in the Steel Industry. Hope this is of some help.
