Pam, The first Conrad is indeed my Conrad ROESE. The others may be related too. I have a copy of part of the passenger list of the Bark Maryland. It arrived in Baltimore on June 23, 1863. Conrad ROESE, his wife and his 5 children were on board. So was Detrick MILLER and his 4 children. These 3 adults are my gggrandparents. A son in the Miller family, Adam Detrick MILLER and a daughter of Conrad, Dorothy Elizabeth were married in Baltimore about 1872.This couple is had 9 children. This is my line.
I have seen Conrad’s wife’s first name as Martha, Mathilde, and Dorothea; but her middle name has always been Elizabeth.
I have copies of the death certificates of the 3 immigrant adults Conrad, Dorothea, and Detrick. All 3 are buried in St. Paul’s 5th Reform. Cemetery. In Baltimore. The name of the cemetery now is Voshell Memorial Gardens.
I have not followed the ROESE line as much as the MILLER. On the 1880 Census Conrad (51) is living with his wife Martha Elizabeth in Baltimore. Their son Edward (Ewalt) (26) is also in Baltimore, living with his wife Emilie (23) 2 daughters, Fredericka (4) and Anna (2), and son Franz (10 mo.)
I have information on a couple ROESE’s that I have not yet proven the family relationship if any. They are on my “to do” list.
First there is Henry ROESE b. 1813, Ger., d. 09 Feb 1879, Baltimore. He is buried in Western Cemetery in Baltimore. On the 1870 Census Henry was listed 55 years old and owning and running a tavern. He was listed in Baltimore city directories 1864-1879 at 302 Montgomery St. (I haven’t looked at earlier years yet.
I also have a John ROESE b. 1832, d. 10 Jul 1879. He was living at the same address as Conrad at one point and on the same block for the 10 years before his death.
And there are 2Elizabeths. Elizabeth #1 b. 1837, Ger. d. 14 Apr 1875 and is also buried at Western Cem. Elizabeth #2was listed in the directory as a grocer living at the same address as John. I believe that #2 is his wife as there was an Elizabeth still in the directory after the death of Elizabeth #1. On the 1880 Census an Elizabeth is listed as a widow, age 49, b. Hesse Ger., with her son Charles age 17.
What do you have on the ROESEs and how are you related?I’m sorry for being so long winded. I have only found one other person researching the ROESE name.
