Ronald, John (p. 557)
John Ronald was born at Ryegate, Caledonia Co., Vermont, 12 July 1799, son of George and Elizabeth (Smith) Ronald, the former born in Sterlingshire, Scotland, and the latter in New Hampshire. George Ronald (or Ronalds) emigrated to America in 1786 and lived at Ryegate Vermont, with Robert Brock, Sr. and his wife and Jean and Elizabeth Miller. Elizabeth Miler was the thrid wife of James Nelson of Ryegate and married Edward Miller about 1789.
In 1789, Mr. Ronald married Elizabeth Smith, a daughter of Joseph Smith. He died 5 September 1821 at the age of sixty one.
John Ronald, of this review, married Martha Killough, on 10 October 1822, a native of South Carolina and a daughter of James and Jane (Hayes) Killough. Her father was born in Scotland and her mother in Ireland. They married in Ireland and came to America, locating in S.C. where the mother died. In 1810, Mr. Killough mvoed to Ohio with his children and died about two years later.
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald became the parents of ten children, only three are named: Mrs. McDill the eldest was b. 23 February 23, 1825; Emely (sic) born 3 December 1836, m. J.P. Walker of GrandView; and Caroline m. Dr. Lilly of Chicago.
Mr. Ronald died 22 February 1872 and his wife died seven years later in December 1879.
