Pam, A lot of the things I have so far on this family are theory only.I still have not been able to prove the information that I have. First, I had a problem with the age of Sophia Zahler married to Daniel Roof Sr. According to the census records(Carlisle, Cumberland co., Pa., in 1810 Daniel Roof Sr., had a small male(?) and female(Catharine)child under 10 and a wife(Sophia) age 25-40 living with him.If true, it was not the Sophia born in 1802. I emailed a couple of people who had quite a bit of info on the Zahler family.I learned that their were two Sophias, one the daughter of Joseph Zahler (junior) and Mary Margaret Davis - born in Pa.,and one the daughter of Joseph Zahler (senior) and Caterine Rosche which was born in Switzerland.I have the former marrying Andreas(Andrew) Weisz, and the latter marrying Daniel Roof. Notes: from from St. Paul's German Lutheran and Reformed Church records (Zelienople, PA) and from William G. "Buck" Corwin.Birth site from Zahller Family Journal," genealogy records of M. L. Mains.(found in the Logan Co., Ohio library)
The Sophia you reference was born to Joseph Zahler Jr. in ?1802? in Pa.
In the 1820 census records, it listed 1 male(?), and 3 female(-possibly Catharine, Susannah & ?) children. In the 1830, it lists Sophia Roof as the head of household with 1 male(Daniel) and 3 females.I think Catharine and the oldest male child may have married by then and left home.We think Daniel, Sr. died in 1827.From the census records, I think their were 2 males and 4 females born to this union, but I can not find any others. In 1850 census, we found a Catharine House living with Daniel Roof and his family.Close by is a Susannah Young. No one seems to be able to figure out the connection, but I think these are sisters to Daniel. This is about all I can tell you now, but if I come up with more I will let you know. Linda
