Dear Maggie!
I was so excited to see your posting on the Genealogy.com Oregon Genealogy Forum site!!!
"Bridget" was Bea's mother.Bea's (Beatrice) sister was my great-grandmother, Catherine Anne [nee Rooney] Stokan.
Bea married Hugh Cox.My mother, Catherine's grand daughter and Bea's grand niece, always said that Alta Boucher "had the family history."
So -- Catherine and Beatrice were born in Michigan.Their parents, Bridget and Thomas Rooney were from Ireland and settled in Canada before emigrating to Michigan.Catherine married James A. Stokan (spelled with an -a, not an -e as it appears in the obituary).
Bridget was buried in East Tawas, Iosco County, Michigan, USA. She was born in Ireland in 1822 and died 12 March 1894.
James & Catherine had a hotel in Michigan, and then in Wenatchee, WA.They moved to Medford, Oregon, with my grandmother, Leonilla and her sister Mary Ellen ("Mayme").Leonilla married Albert J. McManus and had a daughter, Beverly Jane.Beverly Jane was my mother (she died of lung cancer 7 Sep 2003).Beverly Jane ("Bev") married Allen L. Resburg Jr.
Catherine and James' grave is in Medford, OR at the Eastwood IOOF Cemetary (I just visited it Thursday for the first time).
You can find photos of their gravesite on www.findagrave.com .Look under Stokan in Oregon.
I would be really happy to share genealogy with you!!
Sincerely,
Kathleen Resburg
To add about the Stokan side:
James A was born to Peter Stokan and Jane Setter.
Peter was born 11 may 1816 in Stromness, Orkney Islands, Scotland.
Jane Setter was born 4 April 1821 on the Shetland Islands, Scotland.
They had 8 children; James was born in Michigan 1 August 1856, and died 13 May 1925 in Medford, Oregon.
I am his great granddaughter.
