The earliest location that I have for this Rorex family is Surry (later Rowan, now Davidson) Co., NC in 1768.William Roark/Rorex [Sr.] (m. Margaret Yost) had land dealing in that area as late as Feb. 27, 1797.He sold land in Jefferson (now Hamblen) Co., TN on Jan. 15, 1800.He also had other land dealings there until as late as June 10, 1809.By Feb. 1816, he had settled in Lincoln Co., TN where he died.He may have also lived in Green Co., TN at some point. His son William Rorex [Jr.] (m. Margaret Keys) was living in Roane Co., TN by 1802, where Samuel was born. They may have lived in GA c.1815, before ending up in AL in 1819 where they settled in Jackson Co., AL for the rest of their lives.
What else do you know about your James Rorex?
Samuel had a brother named James M. Rorex (b. May 2, 1827), but he was still in Jackson Co., AL on Dec. 22, 1865 when he m. Catherine Omar/Owens and I have him listed as having no children.
Samuel also had an unclde named James Rorex (b. 1780's) who was living in Lincoln Co., TN in the 1840 Census.I don't know much else about him.I show him as having 2 wives with 2 sons by the first wife plus three more sons and 3 daughters by his second wife (Parthenia Parks).I do not have the name of his first wife, or the names of any of their children.
I just checked the 1880 Census on the LDS web site and found a James & Parthena Rorix w/2 children & 3 grandchildren living together in Alexander, Pope Co., IL, which appears to be a possible match. The only part that doesn't quite match up is James's age, which would make him 10-20 years younger than what I have, but this could be due to a transcription error, or an error in the original census. It could even be that I have a father and son (or uncle and nephew) with the same name merged together.
