Dear Chris - I apologize for not responding sooner, espeically since you have tried to reach me more than once. All my "Roscoe" family settled around Pittsburgh, coming over between 1900-1906. the last name probably was Rosko or Rosku - "Roscoe" is English and they sure were not! My grandfather was from Slovakia (Czechoslovakia, now Czech Republic) and they spoke Slovak. I never could get any of the older generation to tell me what the last name really was - same with my grandmother, who was Lithuanian. I don't know why there was such secrecy, although people came over and assimilated - the lucky ones NOW have family records to refer to. The Austro-Hungarian Empire had wide boundaries so you really have to know exactly where the family was from and their true ethnicity. E-mail if you would like to "talk" a little more.
