The earliest record that I can find on the NJ Roseberrys/Rosenbergers is when my Joseph Roseberry bought land in Greenwich twp, Sussex Co., NJ in 1766.The land bordered the Delaware River and sits near Philipsburg, NJ and it listed him as "of Sussex" then. Joseph and his wife, Hannah, sold this land in 1775 after purchasing 300+ acres of land in nearby Northumberland Co., Pa. on Fishing Creek. The Northumberland Co. deed states that he was of Greenwich twp, Sussex Co., NJ.He bought his new land from Edward and Joseph Shippen Jr. of Philadelphia. The Shippen family had a huge amount of land that went through Sussex Co. (Warren Co. now) NJ, too. Joseph can be seen in the taxlists in the 1780's and the 1790 census in Northumberland Co.He died there in 1799 when his will was filed. The will only mentions the 4 children that lived near him there...Joseph Roseberry, Mary Crawford-my link, who married Edmond Crawford, Hannah who was married at least 3 times, once to a Russell, then to a George Aspy, and then to a Martin Myers, and lastly his daughter Deborah who married John Davis.
Does anyone have any earlier records of either Joseph Roseberry or his brother, Michael?Or have any records of their parents? I have seen where there is a Johann Michael Roseberry and wife, Mary listed as possible parents.Where can this Johann Michael be found in records?
I am also looking for info on some people mentioned in Michael Roseberry's will of 1772 (filed in 1780 in Sussex Co., NJ--current day Warren Co.).According to his will, Michael must not have any children of his own.He lists his brother JOSEPH and Joseph's son, MICHAEL.The will also lists CATHERINE PHILIPS, wife of William Philips and her children Philip, Jacob, Johanna, Elizabeth, John, Lydia, and Mary Philips. As well as MARY MANNON, wife of William Mannon.Does anyone have an actual copy of his will?
In 1771, there is a baptism for 3 children of Leonard and Anna Freed/Tweed in the St. James Lutheran Church in Greenwich twp.It is listed as Lenord Tweed [Leonhard Freed], wife Anna--Joseph b. Oct. 12, 1767; John b. Oct. 23, 1769; Lenord, b. Aug. 21, 1771; bapt. all Oct. 27, 1771--Sponsors Joseph Roseberry, wife Hannah; John Spenring, wife Cathrina; John Mannon, wife Elizabeth.[Joseph--Sponsors Joseph Goseberry & Hanna; John--Sponsors John Spering & Cath.; Leonard--Sponsors John Mannen & Maria Elis.]
Notice the sponsors of Joseph and Hannah Roseberry and John and Maria Elizabeth Mannon.Does Anna Tweed fit into the Roseberry family, too?How old are Mary Mannon and Catherine Philips?I am assuming that they are sisters to Joseph and Michael?
The following Roseberrys were listed in Greenwich twp., Sussex Co., NJ 1773 taxlists:my Joseph, his son Michael, his brother Michael, and who I believe is another son John (this seems to be the John born in 1750 and died in 1827?).There is also a Peter in nearby Oxford that could possibly be yet another son?William Philips and John Mannon is listed in the same area, too.According to Joseph Roseberry's known children of Mary, Joseph, and Debbie, they all were born in the 1740's-1750's.Was Joseph's son, Michael born in the 1740's too? This would put Joseph born 1720-1730?
