Richard W, Routon was my great-grandfather's brother.I have a copy of a letter from the War Department to my great-grandfather.The letter is from the office of the Commanding General at Fort Sam Houston.EvidentlyRichard went missing in early Feb 1923 and the family was notified.
The letter I have is dated May 18, 1923, it states that his body was found in a cave near Camp Bullis Military reservation on April 6, 1923.They say his death occured about Feb 2, 1926 in the vicinity of Camp Bullis, and was caused by a "penetrating wound in the head inflicted in an unknown manner".
According to family history as my mother remembered, his body was deliberately hidden. She was also told that he had a wife and a daughter. But I know nothing more than that.
I also have a very nice framed picture of him that I would be glad to give to any decendent that is intrested.
